I never - NEVER - read Vampire books. And although I love fantasy, I've never been much of a fan of "urban fantasy". Until now. I picked up Patricia Briggs' first book in the Mercy Thompson series, Moon Called, in Florida last summer (I needed some beach reading.) She had been recommended to me, and I found the book at a great used book store in Mandarin (Jacksonville) - Black Sheep Books on Old St. Augustine Rd. - and, against all previous predilections, LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it!!! I immediately went back for books 2, 3, and 4 - Blood Bound, Iron Kissed, and Bone Crossed. I loved them too. Then the waiting began. Book 5 wasn't expected out until March of this year. An agonizing wait. But...FINALLY...the book was released: Silver Borne. And it was was worth the wait. The series just keeps getting better and better! The plotting is sound and fast-paced, and the characters well-developed, engaging, and endearing. Even the vampires. Now the main characters are NOT vampires, they're actually werewolves, but all sorts of Fey show up in Patricia's books, and each of them are a delight. I've started reading everything I can get my hands on by Patricia Briggs, including her OTHER werewolf series, Alpha and Omega, and can't wait to start on the next one (Raven's Shadow.)
Silver Borne can be ordered at World Eye. It is still only in hardcover, for $24.95.
